Motherhood looks different for every mama. Over the next year, I want to highlight the way motherhood looks for different families through photos and interview. The first mother I interviewed is the beautiful Rachel Peck, executive director of 431 Ministries.
How many children do you have?
2 beautiful girls
What is your favorite part about being a mom?
The moments when they look at me with all the love in the world. My 3.5 year old will tell me that I’m her best friend and it just melts my heart. I love getting to watch their personalities develop, and being a part of it. I love being able to share my faith with them and watching them ask questions and repeat the truths that I have tried to teach them.
What was your birth experience?
The first one was very traumatic and recovery was difficult. As terrifying as it was to get pregnant again, my second-born’s C Section and recovery was redeeming. I can’t imagine life without them.
What is challenging for you as a mom?
Work/life balance. Feeling like I’m always sacrificing one for the other. And seeing my sins reflected in my children. It’s humbling and points me back to Jesus because suddenly I recognize those failings a lot faster.
How has being a mom affected your work? Work being a mom?
I give other moms more grace. It never occurred to me how difficult it would be to work full time and be a mom full time before I had kids. I also cherish the moments with my family more.
What is your favorite resource to share with other moms?
Oh there are so many good ones. The Bible, first and foremost. Mama Bear Apologetics and everything they do to empower Mama Bears to teach, and Risen Motherhood, to remind us that life is messy and hard and even the little moments can be special and used for the glory of God.
